Island of Capri

The Island of Capri was next on our list.  We took the ferry from Sorrento to Capri.  We had a 3 hour boat tour and planned on renting scooters for the rest of the day.

The harbor in Capri is bright and vibrant.  The buildings are colorful.  It is crowded on the docks with the ferries coming and going.

There are all kinds of different boat tours of Capri.

We highly recommend Gianni's Boat Tour.  It is one of the smaller touring companies.  Family owned with smaller boats.  It was perfect for the four of us.  Gianni's mother even made a lunch for us!

Since it was just us and our captain we got to go at our own pace and see the sights we wanted to see.  These pictures do not capture the beauty of the cliffs and grottoes.  This is a place you have to see in person to truly take in it's beauty.

We were here in May.  The weather was a little hazy, but perfect to enjoy a day in the sun on the water.

There were several old buildings built right into the coastline.

We stopped in a small inlet, put the anchor down and had lunch.  My wife and I enjoyed our lunch on the boat while the kids swam to the shore and walked along the beach.

As we relaxed on our boat I couldn't help notice the larger boats full of tourists driving by with everyone standing looking at the sights while we lounged on our boat.  Once again kudos to my daughter in-law for her great choice!

We chose to skip the famous Blue Grotto.  The line was about an hour to get in.

Capri's most iconic sight is the dramatic Faraglioni, three towering rock formations which jut out from the Mediterranean just off the island's coast. Our captain took us right under the Faraglioni tunnel.  Otherwise known as the Tunnel of Love.

After our boat tour we went to pick up our scooters.  Having never driven a scooter I will admit I was a little nervous because the hills on Capri are pretty steep and streets small with tourists walking everywhere.

To my surprise they required a driving test prior to renting the scooter.  It was the first time in my life I was kind of happy I failed my test!  I paid 10 euro for the experience and took the funicular up the hillside instead.

After a little shopping and a gelato break we headed back down to the ferry and back to Sorrento for the evening.
